The finest stretch of the Blue Highway follows the Ume river upstream from Storuman through Slussfors and Tärnaby to Hemavan, the forest gradually giving way to bare Lapland fells at the Norwegian frontier. It is a fast, flowing cruise with lake views almost the entire way.
