Before you go: ⚠ Single-track with passing places; wild ponies and sheep on the road; busy summer weekends
The highest road pass in Wales (549 m) and exactly what a mountain lane should be: a narrow ribbon out of Hay-on-Wye that crests the Black Mountains between Hay Bluff and Twmpa with the whole Wye valley behind you, then wriggles down the Vale of Ewyas past Capel-y-ffin and the ruins of Llanthony Priory. Windy, wild, and right on top of the mountain the entire way.
Highlights of the Gospel Pass
- 549 m summit between Hay Bluff & Twmpa
- Llanthony Priory ruins
