Bavarian Alps: Lindau to Hintersee
4 days · 3 driving roads · 299 miles of them · best June–September
The Deutsche Alpenstraße from Lake Constance to Berchtesgaden, then the two roads that actually finish it: Rossfeld's panorama toll road and the B305 down to Hintersee. Four days for 280 miles of Alpine front plus the two Berchtesgaden extras. Overnight Füssen or Garmisch, then Berchtesgaden. Four days for 280 miles of Alpine front plus the two Berchtesgaden extras is honest once you allow for the holiday towns and the 50 limits.
Getting there
⛴ Eurotunnel Le Shuttle — Eurotunnel, about 36 min, up to 4/hour. Check sailings.
Worth knowing: The Alpenstraße is a touring corridor through holiday towns — 50 limits, tractors, and the Romantic Road crowds around Füssen. Rossfeld is a toll road (check the current car tariff) with a summit restaurant; it is not the Kehlsteinhaus, which is a bus-only spur off a different road. Hintersee is short and fills with walkers. Fuel in Lindau, Garmisch and Berchtesgaden.
