Mendips & the Jurassic Coast
3 days · 4 driving roads · 53 miles of them · best April–October
Saturday in the gorge country: Cheddar's limestone walls on the B3135, then Burrington Combe over the Mendip tops. Sunday and Monday drop to the Channel — Slapton Ley from Dartmouth to Kingsbridge, then the B3157 from Weymouth to Bridport along Chesil. Overnight in Wells or Cheddar, then Dartmouth or Bridport. Three counties, none of them in a hurry.
Worth knowing: Cheddar's lower bends crawl on summer weekends; go at eight or in April. The B3157 is a cliff road with car parks that fill for the beaches, not for driving. Fuel in Cheddar, Weymouth or Bridport. Burrington is easy to overshoot — it is a combe, not a pass, and walkers use the same tarmac.
