Nockberge, Sölk & Dobratsch

3 days · 3 driving roads · 56 miles of them · best June–September

Carinthia and the Mur valley, quieter than the Glockner. The Nockalmstraße is a toll ridge road of 52 numbered bends; Sölk Pass crosses to the Enns; the Villacher Alpenstraße climbs Dobratsch above Villach. Overnight in Gmünd or Ebene Reichenau, then Villach. Overnight in Gmünd or Ebene Reichenau, then Villach. Quieter than the Glockner, and a different week, not a same-day add-on.

Getting there

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle — Eurotunnel, about 36 min, up to 4/hour. Check sailings.

Worth knowing: Nockalm and Dobratsch are toll roads; Sölk is free and still shuts for snow, usually into May. The Nockalm's numbered bends are well engineered but high and exposed in weather. Dobratsch is a dead-end viewpoint road — last fuel in Villach. Fuel also in Tamsweg or Murau for Sölk. These three sit south of the Glockner trip; they are a different week, not a same-day add-on.
