The Arlberg and Ötztal side of Tyrol. Silvretta Hochalpenstraße, Hahntennjoch, Kühtai Saddle, the Kaunertal glacier toll road, and over Timmelsjoch into South Tyrol. Short distances, high cols, overnight in Landeck or Imst, then Sölden or Oetz. Getting there

Worth knowing: Silvretta, Kaunertal and Timmelsjoch are all toll roads and all shut by snow — typically late May or June until October; check each operator. Hahntennjoch is free, narrow, and also seasonal. Kaunertal is a dead-end: last fuel in Feichten, nothing on the glacier. Timmelsjoch is a border; take passports. Austria needs a motorway vignette if you use the A12/A13 to get there. Start early — coaches and cyclists from ten.
