Vaud, Mosses & the Great St Bernard
3 days · 3 driving roads · 74 miles of them · best June–September
The French-speaking west. Jaun Pass from Bulle toward Boltigen, Col des Mosses from Aigle to Château-d'Oex, then the Great St Bernard from Martigny over to Aosta. Overnight in Château-d'Oex or Aigle, then Aosta. A clean run from the Gruyère hills to Italy. Overnight in Château-d'Oex or Aigle, then Aosta. A clean run from the Gruyère hills to Italy, and the tunnel under the St Bernard is not the point.
Getting there
⛴ Eurotunnel Le Shuttle — Eurotunnel, about 36 min, up to 4/hour. Check sailings.
Worth knowing: Great St Bernard is a border; the tunnel under it is the all-year option and not the point. The pass road typically opens in June. The hospice at the col is the stop, not a café chain. Jaun and Mosses are lower and open longer, but still snow roads. Fuel in Bulle, Aigle and Martigny. Italy on the far side — vignette only needed if you used Swiss motorways to arrive.
