Reindeer on the tarmac, not traffic, and Stekenjokk is only open in summer.

Getting there

Newcastle – Amsterdam — DFDS, about 16 h, daily (overnight). Check sailings.

Worth knowing: Stekenjokk on Vildmarksvägen is typically open only from early June to mid-October — the rest of the road is lower. The Blue Highway is an E-road through lake country, not a pass. Höga Kusten is a trunk E4 with a famous bridge; the views are from the rest areas. Fuel in Strömsund, Vilhelmina, Storuman and Örnsköldsvik. Mosquitoes in July. Five days includes the run-in from the ferry.
