Southwest Norway without repeating Trollstigen. Lysevegen's 27 hairpins down to Lysebotn, the Ryfylke scenic route from the Lysefjord toward Røldal, Gamle Strynefjellsvegen — the old snow road — and Aurlandsfjellet, the Snow Road with the Stegastein viewpoint. Lysevegen is a dead-end unless you take the fjord ferry; build that into the day.

⛴ Newcastle – Amsterdam — DFDS, about 16 h, daily (overnight). Check sailings.

Worth knowing: Lysevegen is seasonal and a dead-end unless you take the fjord ferry out of Lysebotn — build the ferry into the day. Ryfylke is 115 miles with tunnels and ferries; it is a day and a half. Gamle Strynefjell and Aurlandsfjellet typically open in June and shut in October; check vegvesen.no. The existing Norwegian Fjords trip is Trollstigen, Geiranger, Atlantic Road, Sognefjellet and Lofoten. Fuel in Sirdal, Odda, Stryn and Aurland / Flåm. Newcastle–IJmuiden then a long drive north; Bergen ferries are an alternative.
